Three weekends of baseball will finish Monday with the Lake Henry Lakers and Kimball Express facing off for the Class C state tournament title.
Lake Henry defeated New Prague 4-2, while Kimball beat Bemidji 3-0 in semifinal games Sunday in Hamburg.
Lake Henry 4, New Prague 2
The Lakers crept away late from the Orioles, with runs in the sixth and seventh inning to break an early tie in a 4-2 win.
Draftee Patrick Courtney of New London-Spicer pitched six innings in starting for Lake Henry, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out four. Courtney stymied Faribault in a quarterfinal win earlier in the day, pitching the final six innings in relief of that game. Matt Imdieke of Meire Grove finished the final three against New Prague, allowing two hits and walking two with three strikeouts.
Lake Henry broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh.
Austin Bachman’s two-run homer put New Prague up 2-0 in the first. Lake Henry tied the game in the third.
Kimball 3, Bemidji 0
The way Zach Dingmann pitched, the Express didn’t need many runs, in a three-hit shutout to defeat the Blue Ox and advance to the championship.
Dingmann didn’t walk a batter for the night and struck out seven, making a first-inning run all the Express would need. Kimball added runs in the third and seventh.
Kaleb Dingman allowed all three runs in his seven innings for Bemidji, walking four, hitting two batters and striking out five. Ben Thoma finished two innings of shutout ball in relief.
Scott Marquardt, Adam Beyer and Ben Johnson produced RBI as the Express knocked out seven hits and walked four times.
Kimball faces Lake Henry at 3 p.m. Monday in Green Isle for the Class C championship.
